★★★☆☆ 3 / 5
It’s pulp, but it’s better-than-average pulp. It’s a fun, short romp that doesn’t overstay its welcome. The only real fault is that the villain, while an interesting character, doesn’t really pose any kind of threat to the heroes. I suppose he is merely being set up for the next books in the series, but he doesn’t really have a significant impact in this one.
The treatment of the female characters is also a little old fashioned by 2020 standards, but not to the point where it can be considered sexist.
